Nice, (but not so essential) breastfeeding supplies

Yesterday I showed you the absolutely essential breastfeeding items, and today I'll tell you what's nice to have on hand.

The first item is breast shells.  This just helps gals with inverted nipples get more of the nipple out for the baby to grasp.  It worked well for me in my first days with Ella because she was having difficulty latching on.

Now, if you like to get all of your pumping gear and by gear I mean pump sheilds, contaniers and tubing cleaned really well, you can invest in some Medela quick clean bags. You simply wash out your gear and then put it in the bag with 3 oz. of water and microwave it for a little over a minute and it comes out steamy clean.  You can also put your gear in the dishwasher for the same result, but this works great if you need a quick clean.  I use them for toys as well.

Then you've got the breastmilk storage bags. These are great to pump right into and then stick in the freezer. I've had great luck with this Lansinoh brand as well as the Medela brand.

Don't forget that you will need a bottle or two for the times when your baby is not able to eat with you, so to speak.  The breast pump actually comes with a a nipple that will work with the containers you pump into, but Ella did not do well with that nipple for some reason, so I went with the NUK brand at Target.  She does very well with them.

The final item that I felt was useful was the vitamin B6.  My lactation consultant recommended it for sore nipples and it worked for me.  I really didn't use any creams or lanolin, but this can also be helpful for sore nipples.  You'll just have to test it out for yourself.

I hope this was helpful for you new moms out there and don't be afraid to ask questions.  It always helps to have someone to turn to when you're in need, so feel free to ask me anything.  I'll be sure to help if I can.
