Sometimes you gotta get the heck outta Dodge.

by Leslie

Wherever your Dodge is, sometimes you just need to get out of it.  Jaime and I took a chance on the crowds and traffic and went to Duluth for Labor Day weekend.  I know it was a while ago, but I thought I might share some of the more pleasant memories...

Driving along the North Shore of Lake Superior.  It is ultra beautiful.

Standing along a scenic vista--it almost looks like the ocean.

I guess these were left here for someone to ponder the meaning of life while staring out into the abyss.

I highly recommend stopping at Tom's Logging Camp.  I hear they have a petting zoo, but I stopped for a great value on Minnetonka Moccasins.

Jaime is precariously perched here tying his shoe.  You can walk about a mile out into the water on this concrete....thing.

Split Rock Lighthouse.  Beautiful and fully restored.  Great tour and great atmosphere.

Look up!  You can see the lighthouse lens--the only mercury float lens still in operation today.  I totally sound like a tour guide.

The clockwork that turns the lens around.  Looks pretty cool!

I fell on these steps while trying to take a picture.

Gorgeous, brisk weather!

This trip to Duluth was refreshing and relaxing.  I highly recommend it--and it wasn't even too bad on one of the most tourist-y weekends of the year.  The drive was gorgeous and the views were spectacular.  And, if only for a weekend, sometimes you just need to get out of town.
